city on a hill-i believe that the part that people come here for a rural setting is a myth because many come for the previous achetypes of the american dream. this relates to my haiku because people come here for political freedom not religious reasons.

During the Discussion last Wednesday, I learned many things. I learned from my classmates and from the college freshmen. We discussed about this veil that du bois repeatedly talks about and what it meant for the reader. We also found a connection between the veil in du bois and how wright writes about this veil indirectly. This veil aso paves way for the double-consciousness in which du bois talks about too. We see the perspective of the American dream through the eyes of a group of oppressed African Americans. This helps show that different races have different obstacles and that each race has their own adapted version of their own American dream.
